U2 have teamed up with Jay-Z to release a charity single in aid of victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Speaking to Irish radio station 2FM, U2 guitarist the Edge said the song was written and recorded last week after producer Swizz Beatz contacted Bono.

“Bono got a call from a producer, Swizz. He and Jay-Z wanted to do something for Haiti. So Bono came up with a phrase on the phone and last night we wrote a song, finished, recorded, and sent it back to them. So, that might be the next thing you hear from us.”

It is not clear when the single will be released, but the band are set to perform with Jay-Z as part of the Hope for Haiti telethon in the US this Friday (22 January). Rihanna and Alicia Keys are also reported to be performing at the fundraising event.
Other musicians contributing to the Haiti cause include Lady Gaga, who will donate the proceeds of a forthcoming concert in New York to the relief effort. Elsewhere, Scottish indie rockers Mogwai have announced they are auctioning the band’s piano on eBay and will donate the money to Oxfam and Doctors Without Borders.
The Hope for Haiti telethon will be screened on a number of US networks this Friday and can be seen live on MTV UK from 1am on Saturday (23 January). All proceeds will go to a number of charities, including Red Cross and Haiti-based charity Partners in Health.

Gli U2 si sono messi insieme a Jay-Z per fare un singolo in aiuto delle vittime del terremoto ad Haiti. Parlando alla radio irlandese 2FM, il chitarrista degli U2, the Edge, ha detto che la canzone è stata scritta e registrata la settimana scorsa dopo che il produttore Swizz Beatz ha contattato Bono.
“Bono ha avuto una chiamata dal produttore Swizz. Lui e Jay-Z volevano fare qualcosa per Haiti. Così Bono se ne è uscito con una frase al telefono e ieri sera abbiamo scritto una canzone, e l’abbiamo mandata a loro. Così, quella potrebbe essere la prossima cosa che sentite fatta da noi”
Non è chiaro quando il singolo uscirà , ma il gruppo si esibirà con Jay-Z durante il telethon americano chiamato Hope for Haiti il prossimo venerdì 22 gennaio. All’evento di raccolta di fondi si esibiranno anche Rihanna e Alicia Keys.
Altri musicisti che contribuiranno alla causa di Haiti includono Lady Gaga, che donerà gli incassi di un prossimo concerto a New York per gli aiuti. In altre località , la band scozzese indipendente dei Mogwai ha annunciato che sta mettendo all’asta il proprio pianoforte su Ebay e donerà il ricavato alle associazioni Doctors Without Borders e Oxfam.
Il telethon di Hope for Haiti sarà messo in onda in molti canali americani questo venerdì e potrà essere visto in diretta su MTV UK dall’una di notte di sabato 23 gennaio. Tutto il ricavato andrà ad un numero di associazioni di beneficienza, inclusa la Croce Rosso e l’associazione di Haiti, Partners in Health.
