La filastrocca del leone e l’unicorno risale al 1600 quando i due regni di Inghilterra e Scozia furono unificati da re Giacomo I e ci fu il bisogno di creare un simbolo comune. Visto che l’Inghilterra utilizzava due leoni e la Scozia due unicorni fu deciso salomonicamente di scegliere un leone ed un unicorno insieme ed ottenere un simbolo totalmente nuovo. La filastrocca, come sempre accade, descrive le vicende di cui si parla dal punto di vista del popolo.
