John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono has written an elegant eulogy for her late husband on her blog.

The post, called “The Teamaker,” opens with a memory of the former Beatle teaching his wife how to make tea, and the subsequent realization that he had been doing it wrong all along. “On this day,” she writes, “the day he was assassinated for being a truth seeker and a communicator, what I remember is the night we both cracked up drinking tea.”

Ono continues: “This year would have been the 70th birthday year for John if only he was here. But people are not questioning if he is here or not. They just love him and are keeping him alive with their love. I’ve received notes from all corners of the world to let me know that they were celebrating this year to thank John for having given us so much in his forty short years on earth.

“The most important gift we received from him was not words, but deeds. He believed in Truth, and had dared to speak up. We all knew that he upset certain powerful people with it. But that was John. He couldn’t have been in any other way. If he were here now, I think he would have shouted so we can all hear it. That truth was important. Because without knowing all the truth of what we did, we could not achieve world peace.”

Yoko Ono counts down her favorite John Lennon songs
Ono’s annual December 8 charity concert, Dream Power John Lennon Super Live, took place on Wednesday at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo. Fifteen acts performed at the show; its proceeds will fund 12 schools around the world.

Ono continua: “Quest’anno sarebbe stato il settantesimo compleanno per John se solo fosse qui. Ma
la gente non si interroga se è qui o no. Lo amano soltanto e lo stanno mantenendo in vita con il loro
amore. Ho ricevuto messaggi da tutti gli angoli del mondo che mi facevano sapere che quest’anno
stavano festeggiando per ringraziare John di averci dato tanto nei suoi brevi quarant’anni sulla
terra.
“Il dono più importante che abbiamo ricevuto da lui non sono state le parole, ma i fatti. Egli credeva
nella verità e aveva osato parlare. Sapevamo tutti che in questo modo aveva sconvolto certi potenti.
Ma questo era John. Non avrebbe potuto essere diverso. Se fosse qui ora, credo che griderebbe
così potremmo sentire tutti. Che la verità è importante. Perché senza conoscere tutta la verità
relativa a ciò che abbiamo fatto, non possiamo raggiungere la pace nel mondo.”
