Cameron in new EU referendum pledge

David Cameron has promised to change the law so that no further powers could be transferred to Brussels without the approval of the British people in a referendum.

The Tory leader acknowledged that his campaign for a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty was over after it was signed by all 27 members of the European Union.

But he went on: “We will make sure that this never, ever happens again.”

He added: “Never again should it be possible for a British government to transfer power to the European Union without the say of the British people in a referendum.”

Mr Cameron said that the Tories’ campaign for a UK referendum on the Lisbon Treaty was over after the Czech Republic became the final EU member state to sign the document on Tuesday.

“It’s no longer a treaty, it’s been incorporated into EU law,” he said, adding that the new posts of president and foreign minister were now being created.

“We cannot hold a referendum and magically make those posts or the Lisbon Treaty itself disappear, any more than we could hold a referendum to stop the sun rising in the morning,” he went on.

He said that people would “resent” the fact that there would not be the referendum that was promised by Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.

A Conservative government would amend the European Communities Act 1972 to prohibit the transfer of power to the EU without a referendum. That would cover any future attempt to take Britain into the European single currency, he said.

“We will give the British people a referendum lock to which only they should hold the key, a commitment very similar to that which exists in Ireland,” Mr Cameron added. “This is a major constitutional development, but I believe it’s now the only way to reassure the British people that powers cannot be given away without their explicit approval in a referendum.”

Il signor Cameron ha detto che la campagna dei conservatori per un referendum nel Regno Unito sul Trattato di Lisbona era finita dopo che l’ultimo membro, la Repubblica Ceca, ha firmato il documento martedì.

“Non è più un trattato, è stato incorporato nelle leggi europee” ha detto, aggiungendo che nuove cariche di presidente e ministro degli esteri sono state create.

“Non possiamo organizzare un referendum e fare magicamente sparire il Trattao di Lisbona o queste nuove cariche, nella stessa maniera in cui non possiamo organizzare un referendum per impedire al sole di levarsi al mattino” ha continuato.

Ha detto che la gente si sarebbe risentita per il fatto che non ci sarà il referendum che era stato promesso da Tony Blair e Gordon Brown.

Un governo conservatore modificherebbe l’Atto 1972 riguardanti le Comunità Europee per proibire il trasferimento di potere all’Unione Europea senza un referendum. Questo coprirebbe qualsiasi futuro tentativo di portare la moneta europea in Gran Bretagna, ha detto.

“Noi daremo al popolo Britannico una serratura referendaria, di cui solo esso avrà la chiave, un impegno molto simile a quello che è in vigore in Irlanda” ha aggiunto Cameron. “Questo è un grande sviluppo costituzionale, ma penso che sia ora l’unico modo per riassicurare il popolo Britannico che i poteri non possono essere ceduti senza l’approvazione esplicita in un referendum”

Beatles Music Now Available In Digital Format On USB

Music enthusiasts can now have a chance at savouring their favourite Beatles music in digital format, with their collection of 14 studio albums being made available on a USB drive from the official Beatles store.

The music will be available in an apple shape USB pen drive and it will feature the tracks in 320Kbps MP3 high quality format along with 24 bit FLAC format.

The drive which goes on sale on 7th December, which incidentally is priced at £200, will also include artwork and 13 mini documentaries which will allow fans to relieve the nostalgic moments associated with the fab four.

Only 30,000 units of the limited edition USB drives will be made available for purchase and interested buyers would have to get themselves registered with the official Beatles store to get a chance at purchasing the drive.

It is interesting to note that the music from The Beatles is officially not available at any major online music store including iTunes and the only place where it is available is Bluebeat.com in the US which is termed by many as a case of unauthorised sale and it may soon face legal action from record label EMI.

E interessante notare come la musica dei Beatles non sia ufficialmente disponibile in nessun negozio online, compreso Itunes, e l’unico posto dove trovarla è il sito Bluebeat.com, in America, che è stato da molti definito un caso di vendita illegale e potrebbe presto essere denunciato dalla etichetta discografica EMI.

Guardian loses half a million CVs

The Guardian newspaper’s jobs website has warned 500,000 users that hackers may have got hold of private information held on the site after a “sophisticated and deliberate” attack.

The paper said not all users were at risk, and it has emailed those who are. The email, sent on Saturday, said data relating to job applications “may have been accessed”. It said the incident was now being investigated by the central e-crime unit at New Scotland Yard.

The mail advised people to:

1) Contact your creditors, even if they have not been affected, so that they can monitor your accounts to ensure they remain protected.

2) Contact a credit reference agency: Callcredit, Equifax or Experian provide suggested steps to resolve the situation and prevent it happening again.

3) Contact CIFAS protective registration: If you think you have been a victim of identity theft you should consider subscribing to CIFAS. This places a notice on your credit file indicating that your name and address may be used to perpetrate identity fraud.

It also provided links to various websites for further advice on identity fraud.

The paper said it had been assured by its provider, Madgex, that the site was now secure and that it had contacted, or tried to contact, everyone at risk.

The US version of the site was not affected. The paper declined to give any technical details of the attack until the police investigation was over.

Although no financial information is believed to have been lost, even a standard CV and covering letter can provide a decent start for identity theft.

Hackers have previously gone after recruitment sites like Monster.com to harvest data for ID fraud or for “spear phishing attacks” – personalised email scams.

Il Guardian ha perso mezzo milione di curriculum

Dopo un attacco sofisticato e deliberato il sito internet dedicato al lavoro del Guardian ha avvertito 500.000 utenti che i pirati informatici potrebbero essere in possesso di informazioni private conservate sul sito.

Il giornale ha detto che non tutti gli utenti sono a rischio, e ha spedito emails a quelli che lo sono. L’email, spedita sabato, diceva che i dati relativi alle richieste di lavoro “potrebbero essere stati visti”. Diceva che l’incidente è sotto investigazione da parte dell’unità centrale del crimine elettronico di Scotland Yard.

La email avvisava le persone di:

1) Contattare i propri creditori, anche se se immuni dall’attacco, così che essi possano monitorare i conti per assicurare che restino protetti

2) Contattare una agenzia di riferimento per il credito: Callcredit, Equifax o Experian forniscono soluzioni consigliate per risolvere la situazione ed impedire che succeda ancora

3) Contattare il programma di registrazione protettiva della CIFAS: se pensate di essere stata una vittima di furto di identità dovreste considerare una iscrizione alla CIFAS. Questo inserisce un avvertimento sul vostro archivio di credito indicando che il vostro nome ed indirizzo potrebbero essere usati per perpretrare frodi di identità.

Fornisce anche link a vari siti internet per avere ulteriore consulenza sulla forde di identità.

Il giornale ha detto di essere stato rassicurato dal proprio provider, Madgex, che il sito è ora sicuro e che tutte le persone a rischio sono state contattate, o si è cercato di contattarle.

Anche se si crede che nessuna informazione finanziaria sia andata persa, anche uno standard Curriculum Vitae può fornire un buon punto di partenza per il furto di identità.

I pirati informatici precedentemente hanno attaccato i siti di ricerca di lavoro come Monster.com per raccogliere dati per frodi di identità per attacchi di ‘phishing’, cioè imbrogli tramite email personalizzate.

Miss Frank voted out of X Factor

Girl group Miss Frank have become the latest act to be booted off ITV1 talent show The X Factor.

The London trio found themselves in the sing-off against hotly-tipped solo artist Danyl Johnson after receiving the fewest votes from viewers.

But after the judges failed to agree on which act to save, it was decided on the result of the original vote.

Mentor Louis Walsh said of his group: “They’ve got an awful lot more to give, they were at their best last night.”

‘A total joke’

In the sing-off, Miss Frank – student Graziella Affinita, 25, hairdresser Shaniece Davis, 21, and recruitment consultant Shar Alexandra, 25 – performed Rose Royce’s Love Don’t Live Here Any More while Johnson sang his original audition song, With A Little Help From My Friends.

After Johnson’s rendition Simon Cowell said: “I’ve never been so surprised in my life.

“If this is your last performance, I’ve never heard someone going out on such a high. I think it’s a joke that you’re in the position you’re in, a total joke.”

On hearing their X Factor journey was over, Affinita said the group still planned to stay together.

Meanwhile, the X Factor finalists are set to release a cover of Michael Jackson’s You Are Not Alone to raise money for London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Green protestors still on parliament’s roof

Around 30 climate change protestors remain on the roof of parliament as their demonstration calling for a “new style of politics” in Britain enters its second day.

Environmental group Greenpeace said 55 activists had initially used ladders to scale the Palace of Westminster’s walls yesterday afternoon. Twenty-four had come down during the night and were arrested and bailed to return, but 31 remained.

The demonstrators are located away from the main section of the Palace where the Commons and Lords are located. They are occupying the roof immediately adjacent to the northern end of Westminster Hall, close to the statue of Oliver Cromwell visible from Parliament Square.

Police at the scene told politics.co.uk the protest was not expected to be ended this morning, but said it was “well-contained”. “They’re not going anywhere,” one said.

The demonstrators remained defiant, waving bright green flags on day two of their protest. They are calling for a new style of politics which is capable of meeting the challenge of climate change, 60 days before the crucial summit in Copenhagen begins.

“I feel nervous and I feel a little bit scared, but I feel proud to be doing something I believe in,” one activist said in a video recorded before the demonstration began.

Circa 30 manifestanti contro i cambiamenti climatici restano sul tetto del Parlamento per il secondo giorno di dimostrazioni per un “nuovo stile di politiche” in Gran Bretagna.

Il gruppo ambientalista Greenpeace ha detto che 55 attivisti avevano inizialmente usato scale per salire i muri del Palazzo di Westminster ieri pomeriggio. 24 erano scesi e sono stati arrestati e saranno richiamati per accertamenti, ma 31 sono rimasti.

I dimostranti si trovano lontani dalla sezione principale del Palazzo dove sono i parlamentari. Stanno occupando il tetto immediatamente adiacente all’estremità nord di Westminster Hall, vicino alla statua di Oliver Cromwell visibile dalla piazza del Parlamento.

La polizia ha detto a politics.co.uk che non ci si aspettava che la protesta sarebbe terminata questa mattina, ma che era “ben controllata”. Un poliziotto ha detto: “NOn andranno da nessuna parte”

I dimostranti sono rimasti sprezzanti, esponendo bandiere verde chiato nel loro secondo giorno di protesta. Stanno chiedendo un nuovo stile di politiche che sia capace di affrontare la sfida dei cambiamenti climatici, 60 giorni prima della importante riunione di Copenhagen.
