Yoko Ono Writes Moving Tribute to John Lennon

‘The most important gift we received from him was not words, but deeds’

John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono has written an elegant eulogy for her late husband on her blog.

.
The post, called “The Teamaker,” opens with a memory of the former Beatle teaching his wife how to make tea, and the subsequent realization that he had been doing it wrong all along. “On this day,” she writes, “the day he was assassinated for being a truth seeker and a communicator, what I remember is the night we both cracked up drinking tea.”

.
Ono continues: “This year would have been the 70th birthday year for John if only he was here. But people are not questioning if he is here or not. They just love him and are keeping him alive with their love. I’ve received notes from all corners of the world to let me know that they were celebrating this year to thank John for having given us so much in his forty short years on earth.

.
.
.
“The most important gift we received from him was not words, but deeds. He believed in Truth, and had dared to speak up. We all knew that he upset certain powerful people with it. But that was John. He couldn’t have been in any other way. If he were here now, I think he would have shouted so we can all hear it. That truth was important. Because without knowing all the truth of what we did, we could not achieve world peace.”

avuto luogo mercoledì al Nippon Budokan a Tokyo. Quindici i pezzi eseguiti durante lo spettacolo;
il ricavato finanzierà 12 scuole in tutto il mondo.

La traduzione di un articolo dall'inglese sul ritorno dei Take That

Ecco la traduzione dall’inglese all’italiano di un articolo del Daily Mail che parla del ritorno in scena della celebre Band inglese dei Take That.

Robbie’s going grey, Mark’s forgotten where he parked his car… are Take That REALLY ready for their second comeback?

.
He’s just 36 years old but it seems being in the music industry for the last 20 years has started to take its toll on Robbie Williams.

The singer showed signs of grey hair as he joined his Take That bandmates for an interview at Radio 1 this afternoon following the announcement that the group will be going on tour next year.

With the top of his hair teased into a quiff-style, Robbie appeared to be attempting to hide his silvery locks as he arrived at the studios with Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Howard Donald.

And Robbie isn’t the only member to have started to show his age, as Mark admitted on Radio 1 this morning that he had forgotten where he parked his car.

.
The 38-year-old singer admitted he had spent 24 hours thinking his car had been stolen before realising he had simply parked it at a friend’s house and forgotten about it.

.
.
He said: ‘I just left it at some friend’s house. We were speaking to the friend and said we lost it – and they never said it’s on our drive!’

.
.
He and the group joined presenter Scott Mills to talk about the tour dates, which were announced at a press conference at London’s Savoy Hotel.

UK snow: it’s going to get worse

The week-long early snowfalls and freezing temperatures – the earliest since 1993 – are set to worsen over the next few days.

The Met Office has severe weather warnings in place for Scotland, the eastern areas of Northern Ireland, the east coast of England down through the North East, Yorkshire and Humber, the East Midlands and Cornwall.

The forecasters now predict the bitter winds will increase and the snow will spread to more areas including London and the South East.

Scotland and the North East have, so far, been worst hit by snow, with more than 40cm falling in some areas. All schools in Dundee, West Lothian and Shetland were closed this morning. Some 200 schools are closed in Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and County Durham.

Overnight blizzard conditions and jack-knifed lorries forced the closure of the A9 between Dunblane and Perth – one of the busiest roads in Scotland. The road remains closed with some motorists trapped in their cars. A spokesman for Central Scotland Police warned of dangerous conditions on the roads throughout the rest of the force area saying: “Conditions are horrendous and we would urge caution.”

Further south, the M62 between junction 34 and junction 38 in West Yorkshire was described by authorities as “hazardous”, while one of the main routes into the centre of Sheffield – the Parkway – was said to be “treacherous”.

One lane of the eastbound M4 at the Severn Crossing was closed for a while as a precaution after ice started to form on the bridge.

Neve in Gran Bretagna: andrà ancora peggio

Circa 200 scuole sono chiuse a Tyne and Wear, Northumberland e County Durham.

.

Per esempio: his father liked wine, and now he drinks a lot of wine. Like father, like son (a suo padre piaceva il vino, ed ora lui beve molto vino. Tale padre, tale figlio)

Per esempio: it took me 2 years to learn how to build a decent engine, experience is the father of wisdom (mi ci sono voluti due anni per imparare come costruire un motore decente, ci vuole esperienza per migilorare)

Paul: hey would you like another drink?
Robert: yes
Paul: what would you prefer?
Robert: a pint of beer, but please sit down. It’s my round
Paul: ok
Paul: hey vuoi ancora da bere?
Robert: si
Paul: cosa preferisci?

Buona lettura!

WikiLeaks boss Julian Assange could spend a year in Britain fighting extradition

.
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange could spend at least a year in Britain battling against extradition.

.
The 39-year-old Australian remains behind bars tonight after Swedish prosecutors demanded he be handed over for allegedly sexually assaulting two women.

His legal team, led by leading human rights lawyer Geoffrey Robertson and backed by celebrity supporters, will make another application for bail when he appears in court next Tuesday.

But the fight may last many months in the British courts and eventually end up before the European Court of Human Rights.

His lawyer Mark Stephens – who has dismissed the extradition bid as politically motivated – had a brief three minute telephone call yesterday to Wandsworth prison, where Mr Assange is being held.

.
He said: ‘He was very upbeat, boosted by the massive support he is receiving and the fact that people are beginning to realise that the honeytrap has been sprung.’

.
‘He is being treated perfectly properly and he very much wants to face down these allegations.’

Mr Assange was refused bail after his arrest, with Swedish authorities arguing that he was likely to fail to answer to conditions imposed to ensure he did not abscond.

But Mr Stephens said: ‘He knew the arrest warrant was coming and he didn’t run away and when it arrived he handed himself into police with nine hours notice.

He is not a man who is running away.

‘He is a man of enormous fortitude who is going to see this out.’

He is wanted in Sweden to answer four charges of sexual assault, which his supporters say are part of a plot against Mr Assange, who has angered the U.S. by publishing huge numbers of secret diplomatic cables.

.
The lawyer for the two Swedish women making the sex crime allegations insisted they are not involved in any politically motivated attack.

.
Speaking in Stockholm, Claes Borgstrom said: ‘It has nothing to with WikiLeaks or the CIA’, adding that it was ‘More than 50/50’ that Sweden would eventually press charges on Mr Assange.

The WikiLeaks founder defended the internet publishing of the U.S. documents, saying it was crucial to spreading democracy and likening himself to a global media magnate in the quest to public the truth.

.
Under an article in an Australian newspaper today headlined ‘Don’t shoot the messenger for revealing uncomfortable truths,’ Mr Assange said WikiLeaks deserves protection, not threats and attacks.

He received backing from Australia’s foreign minister Kevin Rudd, himself described as a mistake-prone control freak in one of the leaked U.S. cables.

.
.
Mr Rudd said : ‘Mr Assange is not himself responsible for the unauthorised release of 250,000 documents from the U.S. diplomatic communications network.

.
‘The Americans are responsible for that.

‘I think there are real questions to be asked about the adequacy of their security systems and the level of access that people have had to that material over a long period of time.’

Mr Assange’s estranged son Daniel, 20, a Melbourne-based software developer, pleaded for his father to be treated ‘fairly and apolitically,’ adding: ‘I’m hoping this isn’t just an intermediary step towards his extradition to the U.S..’
