Per esempio: Once you were an employee and now you’re the boss. Now you have the shoe on the other foot (una volta eri un impiegato ed ora sei il capo.

Se qualcosa è comfortable as an old shoe (comodo come una vecchia scarpa) allora è molto comodo.
Per esempio: this is my bedroom. It’s quite small but it’s as comfortable as an old shoe (questa è la mia camera. E abbastanza piccola, ma è molto comoda)

L’espressione drop the other shoe (mollare l’altra scarpa) significa completare un lavoro, terminare un compito la cui prima parte era già stato iniziato.
Per esempio: you wrote the letter and now you should drop the other shoe and send it (hai scritto la lettera ed ora dovresti completare l’opera e spedirla)

Infine il proverbio it’s ill waiting for dead men’s shoes (è malato aspettare per le scarpe dei morti) si riferisce in maniera negativa a chi aspetta che una persona muoia per ereditare qualcosa.
Per esempio: I hope he’s not looking forward for her dead to inherit her house. It’s ill waiting for dead men’s shoes.
