In our daily relationship with the computer and the internet we use programs to navigate the internet, visit websites, read news, listen to music, watch videos and much more.
Such programs are called ‘browsers’, some examples of these are Netscape(rip) Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Safari and many others.
The word ‘browser’ comes from the verb ‘to browse’, that has 2 main meanings: the act of feeding by continual nibbling, and to look around casually and randomly.

Both meanings can be applied to our program, infact it ‘chews’ informations without looking for something in particular.
When we visit a webpage using a browser, often (if not always) we find direct connections with other pages, these are the ‘links’. The original meaning of link is related to chains, while the ones we find inside webpages are more correctly referred as ‘hyperlinks’, because they are virtual relationships between virtual documents, just like in an imaginary chain.
